May 31, 2018

Need to edit a document? There’s no need to download it, save changes, and upload a new version in your case file. With Filevine, you can change your Microsoft Office documents quickly and seamlessly.

To change a document on Filevine, click ‘Edit.’ The document will automatically open in Microsoft Office on your computer or mobile device. Make your changes, hit ‘Save,’ and your new version is automatically stored in Filevine.

Filevine’s Edit in Place feature is secure, efficient—and beautiful.

Managing paperwork is central to managing your practice. And the Edit in Place feature joins our host of other document generation, collaboration, and storage tools to make Filevine the premier document management system for attorneys.

Edit in Place is a Microsoft-based integration, connecting your Filevine account with Microsoft Office on your computer or mobile device. You can edit your Filevine documents using the Microsoft capabilities you love, without the extra steps of downloading and uploading.

Supported file types include:

  • MS Word (doc, docx)
  • Excel (xls, xlsx)
  • Visio (vsdx)
  • Publisher (pub)
  • PowerPoint (ppt, pptx)
  • Project (mpp)
  • Access (mdb)

For the best experience, make sure your software is up-to-date. For full functionality, Edit in Place requires Windows + Office 2013 or higher; or MacOS Sierra 10.12 + Office 2016 or higher.

Edit in Place also caters to your security needs. To change any document, a user must have full project or editing permissions. Filevine continues to record previous versions. And cutting out the additional steps of downloading and uploading new versions, Edit in Place reduces the chance of losing documents or changes due to user error.

Edit in place can help a firm go paperless without missing a beat. Or it can enhance an already tech-savvy firm. Try Edit in Place and see how simple document management can be.
